Ken Park (2002)
3.5/5
A very surprising film. It kept my interest and not just during the graphic sex scenes.

Hated (1994)
3/5
Nasty and more graphic than I needed to see. GG came across as a misguided waste of skin and I doubt the world will miss him.

Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le...
5/5
Absolutely superb. A friend told me that on watching this there were points at which he felt like crying because it is just too good. Having seen it I understand his point.

Entertaining non-stop action film. There's no real need for a story and the shoot-outs are well worth watching regardless.

Superbad (2007)
3/5
A fairly average, if slightly cringeworthy, teenage comedy with some funny bits.

Stardust (2007)
5/5
Simply beautiful. Instantly one of my favourite films of all time.

Cashback (2004)
4/5
A surprisingly entertaining film that acutely describes how it feels to be rejected.

Disturbia (2007)
3.5/5
Think American teen remake of Rear Window but not as awful as you'd expect. A bit predictable but I enjoyed it none the less.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)
1.5/5
Don't bother with this. I was left with one resounding thought at the end of this film, "The world does not need a Spiderman 4".

Not bad, enjoyable, cheesy and very obviously made in the eighties.

The Italian Job (1969)
4.5/5
Absolutely brilliant, I can't believe I had never seen it all the way through before.

Tonari no Totoro (1988)
3.5/5
This is a much more childish film than Miyazaki's other work. So I didn't really connect with it or enjoy it as much, it's still beautifully drawn and animated though.

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
4.5/5
I watched this for the Nth time this week, absolutely beautiful but I still prefer Howle's Moving Castle.

Taxi 2 (2000)
4/5
This film still makes me smile. If you've seen the first you know what to expect. Although things are taken even further past the extremes, flying 406 Pugs anyone?

2007-03-12 01:38
King Kong (2005)
2/5
I felt I was fighting a losing battle with this one. I don't like CGI, I can't help it. if it's done to complement sets and live action I don't mind but this film looks like it was shot in a green room and they added everything else in after. I know that a lot of it couldn't have been "real" but what's wrong with puppets and models? Don't bother, it will irritate you.

Quite good but seeing it the day after watching The Prestige really showed it up.

Very interesting film which kept me puzzling right until the end. Well worth a watch.

Casino Royale (2006)
3.5/5
A good solid action film but it seemed to drag at some points and I thought it had ended at least twice before the credits.

2007-02-22 23:52
Domino (2005)
2.5/5
From what I've read about her online it sounds like Domino had an interesting if tragically short life, the film however is just tragically over-stylized.

Dragnet (1987)
3.5/5
Classic eighties nostalgia for me. I remember seeing this many years ago with my brother when we were young. It still makes me chuckle.

The Princess Bride (1987)
4.5/5
It must be at least fifteen years since I saw this film for the first time and it's still just as good. A proper fantasy story for children of all ages.

I watched this again with Chris the other day and I just don't get why people think it's brilliant. It's alright but I think two viewings is enough.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but after all the hype I felt a little disappointed. I wish I'd seen it before people had told me all the best bits.

Laberinto del Fauno, El (2006)

A beautiful, moving and surprisingly violent film that made me cry twice. You have to see it.

Hauru no ugoku shiro (2004)
4.5/5
Beautiful film. I have only seen two of Miyazaki's films; this and Spirited Away, and they are both breathtaking.

I think you either love or hate this film. It's a very black comedy about two girls starting their lives after graduating high school.

Chaos (2006/I)
3/5
Wesley Snipes and Jason Statham in a movie without a lot of action. A heist movie with a twisting plot, worth watching if you get a chance.

2007-01-29 02:30
Think of The Craft with a male cast, this is that film but I enjoyed it more and it had better effects.

Absolutely brilliant, it reminded me why I didn't continue with my illustrious office carreer.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
3.5/5
Awful story, amazing driving and astounding cars.

2007-01-24 23:47
Proper sub B-Movie level, man in a monster suit eighties film. Awful story and acting but fabulously trashy.

Final Destination 3 (2006)
3.5/5
Better than I expected. I enjoyed Final Destination and I thought they were stretching the premise with a sequel. This is more of the same with grislier deaths. The SE DVD is interesting though, it gives you the options to make decisions that effect the story as it unfolds.

Cold and Dark (2005)
1.5/5
This really didn't live up to the trailer and the Chief Inspector made me want to switch it off.

2007-01-17 01:22
Zombie Honeymoon (2004)
3.5/5
If the title of this film doesn't make you want to see it then it's not for you. An interesting concept executed pretty well.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
4/5
Very good film, I loved the narration and particularly the way the narrator speaks to directly to the audience about the film as a film.

2007-01-12 11:42
A slasher movie set on a hedonistic island resort. Fairly average with some funny moments, it definitely has it's tongue well and truly in it's cheek.

2007-01-10 23:54
BloodRayne (2005)
1.5/5
A movie based on a vampire game I have never played, imagine Blade with a female heroine set in medieval times and then remove all the style and the ability to act.

16 Blocks (2006)
3/5
Bruce Willis plays a drunk old cop who is tasked with escorting a witness sixteen blocks to give evidence in court. The film was far sappier than I expected, not the typical Willis action movie.

2007-01-07 19:49
I, Robot (2004)
3/5
Product placement rules the day in this one. Good CGI and not a bad story but apparently it shares nothing in common with the book except the name and the three laws.

Payback (1999/I)
3.5/5
After Porter is shot and left for dead for his $70,000 share of a robbery he goes to get his money back. It's a very dark film echoing a film noir style to the extent that it's almost black and white in places. Lucy Liu is hot in it, there are plenty of fights and deaths. A solid action film.

2007-01-05 23:26
Clerks II (2006)
4/5
Not as good as some of his previous films but I never really expected it to be. However, there are some laugh out loud moments and if you've seen the rest of the Askiewniverse films you should watch this for closure.

2007-01-04 22:45
Awful rip-off of The Hills Have Eyes. The only upside was the fact that Eliza Dushku is in it and I think she's cute but even that's not enough to make me watch it again.

2007-01-04 22:09
Wolf Creek (2005)
2.5/5
A tense survival horror movie ruined by the fact that the characters were too stupid to kill the bad guy when the had the chance.

2007-01-02 20:12
Evil Bong (2006)
2.5/5
A group of stoners buy a posessed bong and bad things happen. It's as bad as it sounds but it is tragically compelling. As soon as I saw Full Moon Productions name at the beginning of it I knew what to expect.

A Scanner Darkly (2006)
4.5/5
Amazing style and a fantastic adaptation of the book. The movie really plays with you mind and gives you a sense of the blurring of reality that the central character is experiencing.

Slither (2006)
3.5/5
Alien worms take over humans making useful zombie servants for a higher being set on consuming the Earth. Not as funny as I hoped but still well worth watching at there were a few bits that made me cackle.

The Ice Harvest (2005)
2.5/5
John Cusack plays a mob lawyer trying to steal $2m from his boss. I liked the film noir style but I didn't really think it was anything special.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's...
3/5
Nowhere near as bad as I expected after hearing what everyone else said about it although the whole film just seems like a setup for a sequel.

The lead character is a lol level mob member. He's put in charge of disposing of a gun used to kill some dirty cops but his son's friend finds it and uses it to shoot his abusive father. The film unfolds as he tracks down the gun and his son's friend before the cops or the mob can find them.

Unfortunately this proves that Jack Black is only funny when he's not acting. I have no idea what the accent was supposed to be and it was just plain irritating. There were a few moments that made me laugh but they were very few.

Inside Man (2006)
3.5/5
Robbers take over a bank, taking about thirty people hostage but it's not a simple bank robbery. Interesting ideas but the film is a bit too long.

Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

Awesome film. Very confusing at the beginning but it begins to come together about halfway through.

Hard Candy (2005)
2.5/5
A young photographer meets a fourteen year old girl online and then they meet up. Not as good as I originally hoped but not as bad as I'd been told it was. I'm still a little sketchy on what the moral of the story was though.

Wilderness (2006)
2.5/5
Prison warden, Sean Pertwee takes a group of juvenile delinquents to an island in an attempt to rehabilitate them. It's alright, it's a mix of I know what you did last summer and Lord of the Flies, not scary enough to be a horror nor funny enough to be a comedy.

Niki brought this over last night. It's really not my sort of thing, once is more than enough.

The Mission (1986)

Watched this again the other night. It's a beautiful and powerful film although it didn't effect me nearly as much the second time around.

I'm still not sure that I get it. Kaneda's bike alone is worth four out of five though.

Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny (2006)
3.5/5
I went to see this with Tone and his brother. I thought it was brilliant it seems that the majority didn't like it though. It's a fictional film about Tenacious D written by Tenacious D, what were they expecting?
