A Perfect Weekend

On Thursday Katy came and met me for work as planned but unfortunately I managed to loose my car keys thus stranding us in Bluewater until my Mother could bring me the spare key. On Friday we went back to Bluewater so Katy could get a birthday present for one of her friends. Then we went to London and it all got a bit hectic after that.

We went to Highbury, to Russel’s flat where we were staying for the weekend. Then from there to The Flask in Highgate for Dan’s leaving drinks with Alex, Keiran and Carrie. Then to the Devonshire Arms in Camden, where I was introduced to Elen, Red, Richard and Sarah. While I was in the Dev I saw this big ball of dreads flying across the pub toward me, she leapt on me and gave me a hug. It was Li who went to Uni with me until she dropped out toward the end of the second year. I haven’t seen her for two years but it was really good to see her. She said that I should go to Slimes and I told her we were planning to so I’d see her there. Then we left the Dev and went to Stay Beautiful at the Purple Turtle in Mornington Crescent. We drank an awful lot and it was a fantastic evening.

On Saturday we had to do a lot of rushing about and fortunately neither of us were that hung over. We had to go to Dan’s to get Katy’s TV, video and some other bits an bob’s before he left and then get it back to Russel’s. Once that was all sorted we went to the Dev again to meet Kitty, then there was a quick shopping trip around London and back to Russel’s. From there we all went to Elen & Red’s for dinner where Elen proved herself as The dinner party queen. Then we all went to Slimes where there was more drinking and merriment and I met loads more people.

Sunday morning I had to go home as I had my interview with Apple. I made it home just in time and went to the interview having had about three or four hours sleep. It went okay but I didn’t think I’d got it. Then they rang about an hour after I got in to tell me they wanted me to come back for a follow up interview on Wednesday. Katy and I were supposed to be going back to Shropshire on the Monday but we rearranged it and I organised the interview for Tuesday instead. In the afternoon I went to the Pub with Ben and Matt for a quiet pint and then Rob came over in the evening for a chat as he will be back up North by the time I get back from Katy’s.

On Monday I went back up to London to meet Katy and we sat and watched Simpsons and Futurama. She told me Alex had a spare ticket to see System of a Down that night and she asked me if I’d like it. I felt bad going out without her but she was fine with it so I accepted gratefully. I got to the Astoria around 7ish and I have never seen a queue so big in my life. Eventually I found Matilda in the queue and she introduced me to Squid, Alex turned up and eventually we went in. System were absolutely amazing they played for an hour and a half and they were non-stop. It was a fantastic gig. Then I went back to Russell’s and watched Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure with Katy, Russell and Jason, which is hysterical.

Early Tuesday morning, again, I had to go home for my second interview with Apple. I left in plenty of time but due to the general ineptitude of our rail service ended up in a mad rush. I eventually made it with about five minutes to spare. The interview itself was not at all what I had expected. The first one had been a group thing so I had assumed that this would be a one on one thing, but it was another, albeit smaller, group thing. I think it went quite well and I’m quietly confident, we were told we will be contacted on Thursday. After that I returned home, packed a bag, planned a route and drove up to Russell’s in Highbury to pick up Katy and her stuff, then on to Shropshire, where I will be until I have to return for work on Friday.

PS) I got the job at Apple. I start in June and I can’t say anymore than that as I had to sign a confidentiality agreement. This also means the end of my musing about Apple’s future products as I’m not allowed to publicly speculate lest I accidently leak something. I’m looking forward to it though.
