Musical Reccomendations
When I was at the Rat and Parrot last week the DJ played Switchback and I was asking everyone who it was by but no one knew. Then the DJ said “that was Switchback by Celldweller and they’re gonna be huge this year”. The next morning I couldn’t remember the name of the band or the track. Then at my Brother’s on Saturday morning they played switchback on a skateboarding show on cable.
I’m not one to go on about bands normally but they’re amazing. They’re from the US (surprise) and their music is a subtle blend of Industrial Metal, Drum & Bass and Trance. Rob will love them, Jon will almost certainly hate them but I think you should all give them a listen. Their CD is not available over here yet though, except as an import but I will be buying it as soon as it’s released.
“Developed as an agent of contrast Celldweller combines the electronic and the organic, darkness and beauty, aggression against sensuality, with the ability to find its home in the mosh pit as easily as on the dj’s turntable. The debut album ranges from the guitar-based electronic rock of “Stay With Me (Unlikely)” and “Switchback” to the unique blending of heavily distorted guitars and aggression with drum & bass and trance in “The Last Firstborn” and “Own Little World.” The styles are further contrasted by the electro-orchestral Depeche Mode-esque “So Sorry to Say” and the hauntingly beautiful down tempo track “Welcome to the End.” - Taken from their site
UPDATE: I have ordered three copies of their album. One is for me and the other two I will be selling. If you’re interested let me know. They will be about eight quid each to friends otherwise they’re going on eBay to the highest bidder.
I’ve also put up a copy of the video for Switchback here to wet your appetite. (right click and save as - 16.11Mb Quicktime)
