Panic Buying

Last week we had about 90 Slimline PS2’s in. About half of them were already preordered the rest sold out in under an hour. I’ve lost track of how many customers I’ve turned away that wanted them. I’ve just had a quick look around on the web and nowhere has them; Amazon, ukps2.com and dabs.com have all sold out. And they are going for anything up to £200 on eBay. I wish I’d bought one of the ones we got in now as Sony have advised that they are going to be in extremely short supply until the new year. I wouldn’t have put it on eBay until about the 15th though.

You’d have thought a company as skilled as Sony at marketing could have at least ensured the stock was available before Christmas. They’ll be loosing out on a hella lot of money!

I think maybe it *is* skillful marketing. They’re making the Slimline PS2 more sought after. If people are unsure and find one on sale they’ll buy it to avoid disappointment later. I’ve had parents begging because their kid “still believes in Santa Claus” they’ll go to any lengths to get one.

One went on eBay for £350 with 4 games, 2 controllers and a memory card AND that was a buy it now price!

I’m really confused, we had 8 in stock for weeks and we marketed the little fuckers for ages - dummy boxes, posters even an offer to get it for £139.99 with four games but nobody paid attention. Then all of a sudden about two weeks ago one saturday- BAM! all gone along with our range of XBOX Crystals. I looked at the machine before we brought it and yeah it’s kinda dinky and nice but I couldn’t really see Sony’s logic behind the whole thing, I tought everybody had a Playstation. The moral of this story is that we are getting some more in next week, about 6 I think, I will buy three - on employee discount of course, and sell the little fuckers on E-bay, that should pay for my holiday to Japan. £££ :-> £££

Well that’s fine when you’re a manager! :-) Our store manager wouldn’t let staff buy them and didn’t want to sell them to anyone that wasn’t buying games and accessories as well.
