Why Do I Do It?
Every now and then I see something and I think, “Wow! That would be really cool/helpful/handy”. The thing is I know it won’t, I know it’s going to disappoint me but I still buy it (perhaps I like being disappointed?!). At the end of the day if you want to be an early adopter you’re going to get shafted, either the product won’t work, will break quickly or be almost instantaneously superseded by a newer model or rival brand/format.
My examples would include the Archos JBMM20; a few weeks after I bought it a newer version with a better chip and higher res support was released for the same price. A few months after that a new model was released with a bigger screen and better interface by which time mine was royally screwed by the ever more bug-ridden firmware “upgrades”. And more recently the Action Replay Max Evo For PS2 that was supposed to play DivX and mp3 on the PS2. Which of course it didn’t.
One day I’ll learn…

my vinyl still plays fine.

Good point, well made. I just don’t have the space for vinyl plus it’s really hard to squeeze a record inside an iPod let alone over 300 of them.

ny tapes are good, too

I don’t do tapes anymore. The only tape deck I have is in my car and that is soon to be replaced with a CD/MP3 stereo. Besides I really need over nine days of music with me at all times!

Hey, don’t be mean Jon, I’m sure it kept Ian amused whilst he drove around Reading for *three hours* looking for my house.
