GPS on Mac Continued
I got my software from Amazon today, I got Route Britain 2004. I’m quite impressed with it so far. It doesn’t do voice directions but it displays a huge map with a route drawn on it so it should be okay to use in the car. I’m not sure of the legality of using it like that though but nevermind. Here’s a screenshot.

It’s not something I plan on using often but it’d be good to direct me to and from work for the first few times. I’d like to try and get to my brother’s house in Reading again some time and Jo and I have been invited to my friends birthday just outside Glasgow so it will definitely get some use.

Who knows? This time you might make it to Reading in under five hours.
A new PB!

I’m also using Route66 as ‘navigation’ on my Mac. The only thing that is really lacking in Route 66 is a way to make it update the route continously as you move around with your car. Also speech that will say where to go would be appreciated. Hopefully Route 66 2005 will implement some of this.

Cliff, I doubt that the update will include voice directions. Their PDA and Mobile Phone versions already do it so porting it to the laptop version would have been easier I would assume. I think that they may not be allowed to encourage people to use a laptop while driving and so they will never include the voice directions in the laptop versions. I hope I’m wrong though.
It would definitely be helpful if they could speed up the on-screen updates though as I can see that being a problem.
Thanks for the comment.
