Action Replay Max (DivX Version) Evo Edition For PS2

I’m not happy. I feel like I was promised the Earth and I got a big ball of mud. The ARM Evo is marketed as a cheats system and consists of a 16Mb USB Keydrive, a CD with Max Media Creator (PC Only) on it and another disc which you put in the PS2 to use all of the ARM tools. The tools are supposed to allow you to play audio and video files from CDs and USB Keys created with Max Media Creator and the ability to play Mega-Drive Roms on the PS2, as well as making the PS2 region free and letting you download cheats and saves etc..

I should have known that it wasn’t going to be easy to use, if it worked at all but I threw caution to the wind and bought it anyway. After a few days of faffing about I have posted this message on their support forum:

Hello, I’m new to the forums. I bought the AR Max Evo with the 16Mb key drive to watch DivX movies and play megadrive ROMS on my PS2. So far it won’t do anything. I’ve got the latest version of MMC installed 1.21 but it’s still not recognising my CD Writer (Which is an LG “HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8524B”). I’m running Windows 2000 Professional edition.

I tried generating the .cue and .bin files and then burning them in Nero and everytime that has crashed Nero. I also tried burning the CDr from the .cue and .bin files on my Mac with Toast 6. It managed to burn the disc but the PS2 wouldn’t recognise it.

When I copy some roms and the emulator to the USB Key it gets as far as loading PGEN but it doesn’t show any ROMS and it won’t let me select the USB Key as a source to load the ROMS from.

Finally, in the press release it was mentioned that you could stream content across a home network to the PS2 but I can’t find any mention of this in the instructions. How do I go about it?

So far I’m really dissapointed with this product as it doesn’t seem to work at all. I apologise if this is the wrong section to post in but I would just like some help to try and get this working.

Update 06/08/04
Well I can get it to play MegaDrive games from my USB watch, which is pretty cool. The MMC software still refuses to recognise my CDRW which is *quite* irritating. I still feel like Datel released the product too early and are not doing all they can to help their customers. I have still not received a reply from the above email so I will be sending it again today.

Until I can get my PC to burn discs that the PS2 can read I cant really be bothered to try out the DivX side of it so I don’t know if that works or not.

I reccomend that anyone who is having trouble continue to express their displeasure at the codejunkies forums here, you have to register to view and post to these forums.

Update 02/09/04
That’s it, I give up. I have *STILL* not received a reply from either email. Datel haven’t done anything to fix the problem. They have acknowledged that their MMC software will not recognize some burners but the fix they give does not work. They suggest you burn the .cue file with Nero or a similar app, I burnt the discs using Nero and I tried all compatibility modes none of them were read by the PS2.

I have now wasted nearly ten CDRs on this and I refuse to burn anymore. I am disgusted with Datel for releasing an unfinished product and the way they have treated their customers. I will never buy a Datel product again and I would urge anyone I know to avoid them as well.

My last word on this product I promise. I just posted a review to Special Reserve, the place I got mine from. This is the bit I have the biggest problem with:

“Using Action Replay MAX’s powerful Media Player, PlayStation 2 users with a LAN or WAN home network can also stream MP3 music and DivX movies from their PCs.”

This is utter crap. You can’t do it and there is nothing in the software or the very brief instructions about it at all.

Any luck yet? I am in a similar boat hehe.
    Regards.

  2. Ian Says:

I managed to get it to run some megadrive roms from the USB drive. If you choose add emulator and then add the roms after it seems to work. Still haven’t been able to burn a disc that it will read and their MMC software still can’t see my CD drive. I emailed that message to their “support” team, it’s been over a week and I haven’t heard back.

Welcome to the site by the way.

  3. Max purchaser Says:

Got PGEN to load off the EVO key but it won’t see the ROMs. It doesn’t even list the key as somewhere to load from, only CD & memcard.

PS. I’ve converted a couple of short vidclips and they look reasonable, but then found if I ignore ARM’s advice and just play the original, it plays much better - doh!

  4. Ian Says:

Try this. Click the add emulator button and add it to the MAX Drive. Load up PS2 with the AR disc in it. Put in the Max drive, go to media player. After a while you should have a PGEN screen. Remove the max drive then plug it in the PC and add the ROMS. Put it back in the PS2 then it should show in the ROMS List. Don’t know why or if this will work but it solved the problem on mine.

Still haven’t got MMC to burn a CD that works, it still doesn’t support my drive. Bottom line, they released it too early.

  5. Blade Says:

You think that’s bad, try using the USB Pen to download Memory Card saves and then have all the data on your 8mb card get corrupted. Yeah, I’m really happy about that.

  6. Ian Says:

Yeah, it sucks. I can’t believe that something similar happened to both of us! :-(

  7. abdul Says:

dam … arm evo crap sucks … im still trying to figure how to watch divx movies…

  8. Joe Says:

    http://www.geocities.com/slayerscheats/cosmicbadtzmaru.html

Go there to get 720 Roms for your AR Max Evo

  9. Joe Says:

Want to watch movies or play Roms with your Action Replay Max Evo? Ive been reading the forums and other message boards and people cant seem to figure it out, here will help you to get all your Media Playing in your PS2.

    1. For roms to work on your PS2, you must use Max Media creator to convert those roms so they can be read by the PS2. The secret is to use the “Max Media Creator Software”!!

Every where i have read people are having problems with getting there roms to work and thats why they are just burning there roms to a CD-R and trying to make it work. THAT WILL NEVER WORK!! Use the “Max Media Creator Software”.

For best results Put the PGen Emulator “Add Emulator” using the “Max Media Crator Software” on the Pen Drive and run your roms from a CD-R you burned Using “Max Media Crator Software”

If your “Max Media Creator Software” doesnt see your CD Rom drive use “Save to drive” then when you click create click the button “CD Image” and wait for it to get done. Then all you have to do is use your favorite CD Burner Software to make the CD.

After your CD is done Put in your AR Max Evo Game disk in your PS2 and let it load up. Once loaded up go to the Media Player and your Ready to switch the Disk to your CD-R burned with “Max Media Creator Software” or your CD-R you burned the ISO Image to.

Do i search on google if you dont know what a .bin or .iso is.

    2. Playing Media on your PS2 works the same way. You cant just put a CD-R in your PS2 and think it will play it. You MUST use the “Max Media Crator Software”. Sure it can play almost any type of media, but first it must be converted.

To do this you must drag and drop the Media you want to use to the “Max Media Creator” and if there is a Yellow button saying Convert click that to convert it if not just create like the roms.

(Be sure to remove the Pen Drive if you have the Emulator on it, to watch Media)

Thats that, now your ready to play your retro games or play your favorite movies and songs.

The reason it is so importent to use the “Max Media Creator Software” is because it converts all files (even if it doesnt say it) to be read by your PS2.

  10. Ian Says:

Cheers for that Joe. I think you’ll find most people, myself included use the MMC software and that isn’t the problem. The problem is it doesn’t recognise enough burners and burning from cues and bin files doesn’t work in my experience. I have given up with this product but will leave this page here for others who are soldiering on.

  11. JOn Says:

I had much much trouble to get the cdrs to work too. Cus it wouldnt read my cdr drive with the max media creator thing.
I’m guessing you know how to make the cd image file (.bin, .cue) and once you do that all you have to do is find the right cd burning program to burn the cd.
i used a program called “BlindWrite” Search for it on google and dl the free trial.
Then all you have to do is burn the .cue file (assuming its in the same directory as the .bin file) this should work. it worked for me.

  12. Paul Says:

I also bought the action replay max with media player. Itsays in the manual that I can Upgrade my codelist by using a CD-R, for those people without a usb flash drive. What it doesn’t tell you is how !!!. Does anyone know how!!!

  13. Ryan Says:

someone should compile a list of burners that work….or don’t work………….
because i want to buy thism but if it wont work on my drice, it will be a waste……..
i do have 2 computers with burners though

  14. LM Says:

    Hi All.

Don/t know if anybody still reads this?
Max Media Creator won’t read my cd writer but I have found a way to get the roms to work on my PS2 every time. If anybody needs help just e-mail me, i’ll be glad to help.

    l.meere@tiscali.co.uk

  15. Ian Says:

Ryan, if you contact Datel they should be able to tell you which burners ’should’ be compatible.

LM, I managed to get the ROMS to run using the flash drive but it’s the movie side of it that I bought it for and to stream video and audio over a LAN, which as far as I know was a complete lie as I haven’t heard of a single person that has got it to work.

  16. Shiv Says:

same, i also bought action replay max with media player, and suprisingly it says you can update your codelist with a cd-r, so i went to media creator and put the latest codelist on a cd-r and my ps2 doesnt recognise it , datel are so dum they dont tell you how to do it on the instruction manual, so i called the £1 a minute helpline, i was holding for 10mins i talked to a rep and he said he couldnt help me and cut the phone, i am realy dissapointed with datel. And i know lots of other people are dissapointed asswell, i also went to the support page on their website its been 2 weeks no reply. DATEL SUCKS

  20. Ian Says:

    Hi Clay,

Nice to see someone as cool as you has such a high standard of written language. Using “and” in a sentence four times is generally frowned upon, as is the complete lack of punctuation and capitalization. Nevermind, you made your point, Datel, as a multinational company, will only help if you live in the US. Yeah, I agree they rule.

    Don’t forget, vote Bush!

  21. chris Says:

hi, I also bought an action replay max evo and when I download code lists to my flashdrive I dont know how to load them to my action replay. Please could somebody help. Thanks, Chris

Right, no more bashing the UK or US that’s not what this page is for. This page is for bitching about Action Replay Max, trying to give each other advice that should have been included with the product and to try and warn potential customers. Any more comments of the above nature will be removed.

  24. c Says:

alright, sorry about what i said about da usa.

    Reaver76,
What you’re looking for are Sega Megadrive or Sega Genesis ROMs. Try searching google.

Hello, is there ne way to play other emulators w/ ARM evo like Snes?

  28. hawk Says:

why does the arm evo corrupt your memeory card and is there a way to stop it happening?….i compressed the saves and all was fine until i tried deleting a save throught the arm explorer…soon after that the memory card was empty and it all became corrupted with only 400kb of empty space spare???……any ideas?..

  29. Wade Says:

Hey all, I found this site searching for info about AR MAX.

I just bought one last week for the abilities it is supposed to have.

TO make a long story short, has anyone noticed that the codelist.bin file through the Maxdrive APP has not been updated in some time?

Does anyone here now how to obtain a new list that contains current games such as GTA:SA?

    Many Thanks

  30. Ian Says:

Hawk, I have no idea why it does it. After it trashed a load of my saved games I decided not to risk it again.

  31. Bob Says:

For all those idiots saying that Datel treat Americans better… Datel is a British company you fools, Game Shark is US. All the software is written in the UK.. If you have problems go on the CodeJunkies web site and get the latest version, I have done so for a problem I had and this solved all my bugs.

  32. benjamin1243 Says:

hey for all you people who helped with some problems thank you. my problem i have is using the pendrive to get the new codes. I havent had a currupted flash drive yet. it is my 2end week using it and still no problems besides the fact i cant seem to update my code list. I am vary unhappy with it. anyone know how to fix this?

  33. Griley Says:

Hello folks, I got to say that I have found it to be a very useful device. But here are a few pointers.

Because PS2 does not accept CD-Rs without modifications, ARME has to fool it somehow. Lets say that CD-Rs with ‘data’ on them are BAD and your PS2 won’t like it. But it will let you play audio CD-Rs. What the Media Creator software does is create an audio CD-R that actually contains data, that only ARME can decode. Hence you MUST use the software supplied to create this special type of CD.

If your CD writer is not supported by the creator software, you can save a file that should be recognized by your usual CD creator software. Load the audio.cue file with your software (do not drag it into the CD creating software’s window, make sure you open it from File -> Open or equivalent. You are not burning this file onto a disc, you are using the contents of this file to make an audio disc).

If your CD creator software does not correctly burn from the .cue file, then sounds like a problem “at your end”- e.g. the CD writer has a problem, or maybe the software needs upgrading?

I went to the codejunkies website and actually found it pretty useful. There is also a Media Creator software upgrade in case anyone needs it.

Interestingly, the emulator works by running an autoexec.elf file- I wonder if this could be replaced by other emulators for other systems? Surely…

Sorry to hear about the problems folks, good luck with that. Personally I have found it worked great; media creator crashed when trying to burn, but the .cue files open & burn in Nero a treat. Ta-ta.

  34. Griley Says:

Oh, as for updating the pen drive, I think I managed to do that by using some “MaxDrive” software that came on the PC disc. I have a feeling it downloads a new file and copies it to your pendrive if you ask it to. Also, you can browse a massive library of other users game-saves.

Ah, it’s not a bad device. But please folks, remember that cheats never prosper. I got it for the multi-region DVD, MP3 & DIV-X movie functions and I am suitably impressed.

  35. Tareq Ashry Says:

I bought this and burned some CD-Rs of MP3s,
    DID NOT Work.

However I put the PGEN Emualtor on myt USB FLash Drive and burned some Megadrive ROMS onto a CD-R
and it read them on the PS2.

For MP3s and Video Files, I just copy them onto my 256MB USB Flash Drive and the Media player recognises them. Shame it does not seem to recognise files on CD-R.

Maybe I should use good quality CD-Rs, see if that solves the problem.

  36. BigDave Says:

I doubt whether it is the quality of your CDRs as I have never had a problem with this. The latest version on the CodeJunkies website solves problems with various CD Drives by offering ‘compatibility modes’. From what I can gather, if you burn a CD in normal mode and it doesnt work ,try one of the other modes (there are two), this offsets the Data to a correct position on the disk. Apparently certain CD Writers dont follow certain basic standards when writing data (this includes some Sony drives!), and the compatibility modes work round this problem.

  37. Tareq Ashry Says:

I have the PStwo (Slim PS2, Does this method make CD-Rs work on the PStwo, as people say it works better on the old PS2, than the PStwo

  38. ibrox Says:

I tried to copy my San Andreas game saves and in game photos to my Maxdrive (I had 75% of GTA SA completed with 112hrs spent on it)and got all 8mb of my Memory card corrupted. Thanks a lot Datel, Merry F*cking Xmas

  39. Anfield Says:

Hi all. I had similar problems with corupt data. I was able to re-format the PS2 memory card using ARMAX cd. It’s a pain in the arse loosing game saves but shit happens. When you figure out how to use the copy, move compress side of the ARMAX software it is quite good. That said, the movie playing side of things is crap. I have been able to convert and play movies but you can only watch them, you can’t scan through the film. Using the MaxDrive PS2 software for the PC I was able to find cheats for two recent games. One of them was Pro Evo Soccer 4 which has enhanced my game 100% by providing the correct names of players and teams. The other was THUG2.
If you have bought this product to watch movies and play mp3 etc then you have been robbed, as amazon sell a multi-region DVD player for £29.99 that does all of the above and more. If you bought this product for cheats then it works alright and you have the added bonus of a megadrive emulator. I am not overjoyed by the product but I am happy that I was able to get the PES4 option file. (I paid £8 for PES3 ultimate update last year.)

I would be very interested if someone came up with a _MAME.elf_ emulator for it. Very interested.
    Thanks for listening.

goto www.max-drive.tk and download the codelist it does not corrupt your memory card because i repacked it.

  41. Adam Says:

I got the emulator to work with a CD-R!

I’m using a Plextor 24/10/40A burner with Fujifilm (Taiyo Yuden) discs.

First, download the newest Max Media Creator PC App off the codejunkies.com support page. Install it and run it (currently version 1.23)

Add all your ROM files, and click “Add Emulator” when finished. Choose PS2 CDROMs for your Output media (your CD Burner) and click Create.

You’ll have three options Normal, Alternate 1, and Alternate 2. This is where you’ll have to test your burner. Mine worked with Alt. 2, but yours could be either of the three. Choose the slowest burning method (just to be on the safe side.)

Next, make another CD project, but this time only choose Add Emulator. Instead of choose PS2 CDRom, Choose USB drives (and pick the AR Max one, if necessary). Click Create and the transfer should be complete within a few seconds.

Next, load AR Max EVO onto your PS2 as normal. Choose Media Player and then you should get the emulator screen instead of the usual “trippy” background. Insert your burned CDs, one by one (you did burn all of the compatibility options, didn’t you?) When you’ve found one that works, congratulations! If not, Datatel needs to still get cracking.

If this method doesn’t work, at least support the emulator on the USB drive has been added. Just copy your ROM files to the drive like you would any other file (with emulator intact) and you should be set.

The emulator on the USB drive may be an unnecessary step, but this is what got me to where I am THIS MORNING.

  42. Adam Says:

    A few final notes:

    - Uninstall your old copy of MMC before installing the new one.

    - The audio in all of the emulated games has a ringing noise to it. Eh…better than nothing.

  44. BadServo Says:

I’ve been told that in order for a PS2 to read any disc, it has to be burned in Mode 2/XA. I would try bruing my videoz/ROMS in that manner in nero and see if it works.

  45. Ton-Loc Says:

Like many other people here, I’ve had a few problems too. There’s a method to mastering the Max corruption problem if you’re using it for cheats. If you don’t already know this, here’s a good pointer. Simply spend some pounds or bucks(depending if you are a UK or US citizen) and acquire one or two more memory cards if you don’t already have extras. Copy your data on one or two more memory cards, then you’re set just in case you have any problems. You’ll have backup data that you copied on your other memory card(s). You can experiment with the original data as many times as you want to without having to worry about potential risks till you get it right, even if you have to re-copy the memory card(s) more than once. If you already knew thought of this, great but if not, try it out. I had to find out the hard way myself like many of us, but hopefully I’m helping others save themselves the pain of having to start their hard fought saves and victories over again. AR Max is a decent piece of equipment. It just needs to be carefully used, like any other good equipment. Take care!!

Thats not true at all. It will work for 99% of CD Writers, including ones older than 2002. I have three CD Writers, one from 2004, one from 2001 and one from 1998 and they all work fine, the only problems I have had have been fixed with the different compatibility modes.

Nothing seems to work, im about to chuck the AR disc out the freaking window.

  56. Frank Says:

Yep finally got it working since i updated to the new 1.23 version MMC. The emulator worked nicely as i bashed some zombies with a bat in Splatterhouse 2 :) But yea the only dissapointing thing is that i need to use that cheap 16 mb pen drive, still cant burn cd’s. I have a 128 lexar drive that im going to try to load the emulator files on later since it doesn’t seem to load up just the roms on that drive, hopefully that will work… 16 mb’s isn’t much I hope they get there act together, would buy another burner but what if it doesn’t work with that one. They should make a burner list puplic on there site, anyone know of one?

  57. the_truth Says:

All that crap happened to me too but i got it working. when you press create on max media player try pressing alternative compatibility 1. If that dont work try alternative compatibility 2. cds should work after that!

Finally, (lol sorry, i keep thinking of things t oask), the 2 tracks it generates are rly small. Is this cos Nero cnat find the .bin?

  68. Chris Says:

Where do i get pgen roms? I am so frustarted with this. Someone please tell me a good site…that works. Thanks

  69. AK Says:

    Laver
The two audio files are normal. As the ps2 will only let you use cd-r’s that are audio it tricks the ps2 by hiding the data you put on the cd so it thinks its an audio cd when it actually contains data.

  70. CNash Says:

I too am having problems with PGEN and the speed of the sound. It cannot keep up with the video, and continually stutters because of it. I’m running it off a normal USB memory unit, not the Max Drive (as I didn’t get one with my AR…).

As for ROMs… www.romnation.net - rather illegal, but still very good for MD/Genesis ROMs. Ignore the guff about voting for them - just put the code in and the file will work.

  71. Laver Says:

Thanks AK. Well I guess the CD is working, its just my PS2 doesnt recognise it.

Does running roms off the memory stick cause the sound stuttering? I use the max drive and it stutters which is why i am eager to try to get the cd to work.

Anyway, could any of you help me with thois thing?
After copying files between memory cards, AR MAX corrupted my memory card.I had a backup of almost all files so, i format the MC and then copyed all files again to the memory, via Pen Drive.
But now, everytime i download a codelist from the internet, and copy it to the memory card, the AR MAX won’t load it, no mather what i do!It just loads the default one!

What the hell is going on?
Before this, it all woked fine, (even though i had to delete the AR MAX settings file that it would create everytime i used codes…)

I’m going insane with this ****!
The AR MAX completed one week yesterday, so, it can’t be broke, can it?I Hope not…

  73. Alex Says:

  74. jack Says:

hi ive recently bought an avtion replay max evo edition and whenever i try to load it my ps2 says ‘please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc’
    help me plz
    wat shuld i do

  75. Laver Says:

Dont freak Jack. It does that sometimes.
Just reinsert it and restart a couple of times until it loads up.

  76. jack Says:

ive tried tht it still doesnt work.
    thnks anyway

  78. joe Says:

i dont have a comment more of a ? really.i have a friend that hasd action replay max but he only has the memory card that it comes with is ther anyway to actually burn the disc or to buy another if u know a website or a way to get it done can u please tell me thank u

  79. me over here Says:

Sorry if im intruding but do you mean he lost his ARM disc but still has the card and wants to get another disc? If so they sell them at Argos. Sorry if thats not what you meant! :->

  80. SOME GUY Says:

ACTION REPLAY MAX EVO IS CRAP IVE LOOKED FOR EVER ON HOW TO GET IT TO WORK AT FIRST I PUT IN THE DISK NO CODES THEY TOLD ME TO PUT THE USB FLASH DRIVE IN TOO NO CODES!!! THEN THEY SAID YOU DON’T NEED A DISK I DOWNLOADED CHEATS ONTO THE FLASH DRIVE BUT I STILL DONT KNOW HOW TO ACCESS THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  81. Ian Says:

SOME GUY, I understand your frustration but please don’t type in CAPS. While I agree that ARM is unfinished the cheats side of it seemed to work for me although that’s not what I wanted it for.

Put the ARM disc into the PS2.
Once ARM has loaded eject the disc.
    Put in the Game disc
ARM should detect what game it is and give you a list of cheats.
Choose the ones you want to use and start the game.

  82. jonn4d Says:

anyone know where i can get the Max Media creator software as i can no longer install off the disk because my cdrom drive is broke!

    sorry for the double post!

  85. jonny4d Says:

its ok i got it working now

  86. me over here Says:

When i play my roms from a cd in pgen the sound keeps echoing as if playing twice. Does anyone else notice this or is it just me?

The roms work perfectly in Gens (my emulator for the PC)

  87. me over here Says:

Just wondering, is there any way to rip .elf files from other games and play them in a similar way to the roms? Pgen is just a program isnt it? so if you think about it other programs encoded in this way should be able to be read by ARM.

  88. yulius Says:

I bought my AR max,and that damn cd broke my memory card. Are there any ways to format my memory card???

    Plz tell me,i’m desperate

  89. ExploitStation Says:

Yes, in the select device screen (In memory manager) if you read the scrolling instructions at the bottom, it says Press Square for format (Or something).

  90. me over here Says:

I got some corrupt data on my memory card but it just let me delete it like any other file!

  91. Exploitstation Says:

Some corrupt data can be deleted using sony’s MC manager, others cant.

Also that newbie page has changed, its not http://exploitstation.com/es.php?go=n00bie

  92. me over here Says:

    Guess i was lucky then!

  93. Brutal-R Says:

I have ARMax and have managed to get the ROMs working on my PS2. Problem is the sound. Does anybody know how to fix this? It is too fast (it seems) and sounds choppy. This is on all games.

  94. Canadian DJ Says:

    Cheers all!

I bought the ARMax Evo edition before Christmas 2004. I’ve found that one needs a certain level of deductive reasoning to figure out how to operate it. I haven’t had any difficlty loading cheats for the PS2 and I could run most Genesis ROMS if I loaded them on the “maxdrive”.

It took patience and trial and error to figure most of it out. Anyone who’s done any hacking, cracking or cheating before will realize that you won’t get an detailed, coherant and unflawed “Help” file that will tell you how to beat the system.

“Ya playz da game, ya takez yer chances!”

  95. Canadian DJ Says:

As a matter of fact, by following instructions posted in this thread, I have been able to create CD’s that will play video using ARMax, a PC and the PS2. When all else fails, read the instructions [posted here :) ] and as long as you have burning software that will let you write an AUDIO CD from an image file, you should have no problems. Nero works and you can get a free trial for it.

The thing is, this process will take some time and getting used to. If you want instant gratification, go out and by a DVD of the flick.

  96. someone Says:

I burned the codelist and the updater.elf or whatever and I did everything like they said in codejunkies

Everything worked perfectly- it said update save succesful (I saved the updated code list to my memory card) and then asked me to reboot ARM, so I reset my PS2 and put in the ARM CD back. Not even a single change in my code list happened. why? :|

  97. joe bullock Says:

hi, i bought a action replay max (2004) and i have had some problems. i read in this fourm that in order for the cdr to work with playing sega games, you have to use a “audio.cue” file with nero. i have nero , but that audio file is not on the arm disk or my computer , so i downloaded the file from bareshare , but now how do i use it. i assume open up nero and choose to create a music cd with the .cue file, not just copy it on the cd, but use it. how do you do that???????? if anyone could walk me though this i would be greatful. email me or leave a message here on the fourm, thanks again, joe, dracoszuldare@aol.com

You need to sort the filter out pal! It’s gone blocking crazy!

  99. Ian Says:

I can’t see how anything you wanted to post relating to this topic would have been blocked. If you got hit with as many spam comments as I do you’d understand why I have such a strict filter in place. Sorry for the inconvenience though.

  100. Ian Says:

Ok just seen what the problem was, for some reason the blacklist was blocking all words beginning with ‘M’. My thanks to “What????” for bringing the error to my attention, it has now been fixed and should be fine.

  103. Fearce Says:

Did anyone have any luck burning a cd-r with movies to work and what kind of cd did they use?

  104. Ian the Wisconsinite Says:

I’ve tried doing the memory card way and I can run Super Mario RPG on the PS2. However, I want to boot the roms off CDR! Max Media Center will crash if I add SMC files to it. I tried renaming the ROMS to SMD, but SNES Station didn’t recognize that extension. I believe there is an int file that approves SMD instead of SMC, and I want it so i can modify it so I can burn the CD with SNES Station on it! If you rename the SNES Station ELF file to autoexec.elf it’ll boot SNES Station instead of PGEN. This much is known.

  105. gazaar Says:

guide to updating your PS2 codelist via cd-r:

i’ve noticed a few posts about it,
just in case theres any confusion, heres how its done:
    (links to UK site only)

    1) Use the MaxDrive PC application and download the latest Action Replay MAX PS2 codelist “codelist.bin”
    * To do this, install the MaxDrive software, run the program and press the “AR Max Codelist” button on the top left of the application window

    2) (If you haven’t already) Download the latest version of Max Media Creator (1.30) and UMCDR Updater software (autoexec.elf) from “http://uk.codejunkies.com/support.asp?c=GB&cr=GBP&cs=£&r=1&l=1″ (theres a download panel on the left)

    3) Run the Max Media Creator software (1.30) (even though it still says “1.0″ on the actual thing) and add the “autoexec.elf” file and the “codelist.bin” file to a new project

    4) Insert a blank CD-R, NOT CD-RW. set the output method as PS2 CD Roms (or CD-R)

    5) Click “Create” button at the bottom, when prompted choose “Alternate Compatibiltiy 1″ on the burn options dialogue and burn your disc.

    6) Start Action Replay MAX (3.30 or later) and choose Media Player from the main menu
When Media Player has loaded, swap the Action Replay MAX disc for your codelist CDR.

    7) When the Codelist Updater runs, swap your CDR for your ARMAX disc, wait a few seconds then swap it back when prompted.
When the codelist loads choose the codes you would like to include on your codelist and then press ‘CIRCLE’ on your controller.

8)When asked where you would like to save your codelist to, choose either memory card slot or USB Pen-drive (if you have one, highlight it and press “X”).

Once complete, re-load Action Replay MAX with the device you saved the codelist to inserted in your PS2. The updated, customised codelist should be present (your older codes will NOT have been affected)

    hope it helps

  106. gazaar Says:

^^ After the first use of your CD-R disc, some people have found difficulties trying to save the list again.

if you have a slim line ps2, then i’m afraid you probably won’t be able to access the disc due to the laser (even when the thing is brand new)

lastly. when you are prompted to “reboot the ARMAX disc again” DON’T RESET the console, just put the disc back in.

  107. Mac Says:

Mine does not recognise some backup games, when I tried to launch the game it keep asking to put the game into the tray. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi guys,

I have the action replay max evo for half a year now and it was working fine on the new flat ps2. However some time ago I took the max cartridge out of memorycard port 2 because I wanted to copy from one memorycard to another. Now I put it back and when i restarted it said: Please insert your Action Replay MAX Hardware now. I just cant get it to work. When I tried it on my brothers 2 year old ps2 it worked just fine and when I put a memorycard in port 2 it works fine as well. Could someone please give me some advice? thanks in advance
