I concur, it is indeed pointless, pathetic, unecessary, and, most frighteningly, becoming more and more common. My sister, her boyfriend and mates were attacked in a nightclub a while ago, for absolutely no reason. Another friend was beaten around the face with a belt, for no reason. I, and many of my friends, have either been mugged, or people have attempted to mug us, on many seperate occassions. This country is screwed.

Personally, I think we should take a more thorough stand on this. The law should be changed so that those comitting unprovoked violent crimes (after thorough testing) should be shot. Not as punishment of course, but simply because they can't do it again if they have a lead implant in their head. Also a bullet is much cheaper than a prison.

I have had lengthy and enjoyable debates about capital punishment, but I have to concede that there are fundamental flaws. In an ideal society we would have mechanism were we would absolutely know what happened, and could dispose of any vermin, but that is unlikely to ever happen ;)

I think another problem is policing. People do not respect the police, with good reason. Every encounter I have had with the police, they have done absolutely no good what so ever. If for whatever reason people had a little more respect for them, then perhaps the young scum would grow up respecting them too. My nan once told me that when she was young, if she saw a policeman she would be in awe of him and would never dream of doing anything in front of them.

One other problem is that crime is glamourised. I like a bit of rap, but a big influence seems to be all these Gangsta rappers fresh from the ghetto, were they have grown up in a life of poverty, in a world were drugs and guns were common place. They rap about this, and because people idolise them, they become intrigued by their life style and will try to copy it.
