I got my xmas present from Jo last night, she took me to go and see Derren Brown. He was on at The Orchard in Dartford. It was a really good show, I’m more impressed now I’ve had a day to think about it than I was when I left though. I’m really interested in magic in general and I find the psychological programming that he does fascinating. Last night I felt like a lot of his act must have involved stooges as I couldn’t see how it could work otherwise. After thinking about it today there is no way that the people he called up on stage were plants (with, perhaps, the exception of one). For the most part he selects ‘volunteers’ by throwing things into the audience over his shoulder which would make it nearly impossible to have plants in the audience.

He really is a very talented man and his show is well worth going to see. I’d like to watch it again to see if I could spot how it worked. I figured out one of the illusions and was surprised by how easy it was, although it was still incredibly brave and climaxed to a very impressive effect.
