This “Global Village” is a bit small

I went to the second part of Ursula Smartt’s lecture on Intellectual
Property today. I was talking to her at the beginning of the lecture and I
mentioned that I had searched for her books but couldn’t find them until I
realised that I had missed the second “t” from her surname. She mentioned that
one of her students had written something about her on a website but she didn’t
know who and she hadn’t had time to read it. I felt a little embarrassed but I
told her that it was me.

It’s funny, I’ve never really thought about
“people” reading my diary before. I know that some of my friends do but I
forget that the world at large has access to it. It’s an odd feeling, obviously
I put it online knowing that people could read it but I never really
thought about who would read it. I like the fact that people I’ve never
met (and may never meet) can read my words and I wonder what sort of picture of
me they make. I got an email the other day from one such person called Max,
he/she emailed me to thank me for my tutorial on replacing the battery in an iMac and
to let me know that the links no longer work. This is the side of the internet
I really love.
