Jumped Up ‘lil Twat

Today wasn’t fun. I trekked over to PC World in Thurrock with the hope of
getting my Powerbook replaced. When I got there I went to Customer Services and
asked for the manager. This guy came over, Matt Bushell, and said that he was
the manager and asked how he could help. His body language said more than I
think he meant it to, he didn’t want to help me and he looked down at me. So I
explained the problem and I showed him the href="http://www.macaddict.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35099"
target="_blank">marks on the screen, which at first he said he
couldn’t see but then corrected himself. He told me that as it had been over 28
days (39 to be exact) PC World were not responsible to replace the machine but
they would repair it at no cost.

I explained that it was a 30 mile
round trip to the store and that I don’t own a car. I didn’t explain that due
to recent circumstances I haven’t had access to the car as much as normal as I
felt that would seem like a “sob story”. So basically today was the first
chance I’d had to get back there. He said that as it was outside of 28 days
there was nothing he could do. He was even bold enough to claim that a similar
thing had happened to him and even though he was the manager there was nothing
he could do then either. I wasn’t convinced by his story, nor was I convinced
that there was nothing he could do. I quoted the href="http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/saleandsupply.htm"
target="_blank">1979 Sales of Goods Act at him and asked why the
laptop I bought was not “fit for use” or “as advertised”. He again told me
there was nothing he could do except send it back to Apple on my behalf.

I went outside and rang PC World’s Customer services. I spoke to an
incredibly helpful man called Stewart who did his very best to fix the problem.
He tried to contact the store to persuade the manager otherwise but no one was
answering. So I sat in the car for an hour then rang him back, he tried again
but still no answer.

I went back into PC World and spoke to “The
Manager” again. I told him to ring Stewart, he snatched my bits of paper off me
and walked off to ring him. I heard part of the conversation and apparently the
person on the other end didn’t know any Stewarts. He gave me a filthy look, so
I told him how to get through to the correct department (again) and this time he
did. He spoke to Stewart and by the sounds of it he even gave him a bit of a
roasting for trying to help me. After he had finished he told me, while he was
watching the rugby, that he had made his decision and it wouldn’t be changing.
He also said that if I felt I had been unfairly treated I could make a formal
complaint about him, so I’ll probably take him up on that.

On the way
back to the car I rang Stewart once again to thank him for his help. I also
thought he might like to know that Matt Bushell is not the manager. I had asked
in the store, the second time I went in and the manager’s name was Simon
something. So needles to say I won’t be buying anything from PC World again and
I will be recommending that no one else does either (to what extent I’m not sure
yet).
