The revolution will be blogged

Today was interesting. At the beginning of the second class the lecturer
turned up and couldn’t get the lecture theatre to work, so she went off to get a
technician. Fifteen minutes later Rod (another student) stood up and gave a
short speech that he was fed up with all the time we seem to waste in this
university. He proposed that all of us walk out and go and see someone who has
the power to make descisions. We went to see Peter Klein (head of faculty) but
he wasn’t in, so we went to see Richard Coulson (head of digital arts pathways)
and make our grievances felt.

Richard was as helpful as he could be
but as I had expected there was nothing he could do to help us. So we went off
in search of The Dean but as we were leaving Peter emerged so we all went back
up to the office and an informal discussion about the problems of the
university. Basically it seems to come down (unsurprisingly) to money or the
lack of it. The lecture theatres were supposed to be overhauled this year but
due to a cut in LCMM’s budget
the money is not available. At the end of the meeting I had agreed to write a
list of grievances that Peter said he would take to The Dean and or The Director
of Finance.

I think it’s disgraceful that in our final year we have
to fight for these things that are fundamental to our learning. We pay an awful
lot of money for the “privilege” of our time at href="http://www.tvu.ac.uk/">TVU and I think that first and
foremost the money should be spent on the basics then if there’s money left over
then they can buy all the plasma screens they want. Rest assured that I will
continue to update you on the goings-on at href="http://www.tvu.ac.uk/">TVU.
