I’m a very happy bunny….
In case you hadn’t guessed, I got my Powerbook yesterday. I got a
phone call from PC World in the morning then I met Jo from Uni and we went to
collect it in the evening. Oh my god! It’s fantastic. I’m so glad I bought
it. The design is utterly beautiful (hats off to you Mr Ive!) and the machine
itself is fast, quiet and.. … .. just perfect. The full specs are 1.25Ghz G4
processor, 512Mb RAM, 80Gb HDD, built in AirPort (WiFi) & Bluetooth, 3 USB
2.0 ports, two firewire ports one 400 and one 800, one PC card slot, TV &
Composite video out, gigabit ethernet port, internal modem and DVDR/CDRW
superdrive. It’s also got a really funky backlit keyboard.
I can’t
believe how much faster it is than my iMac (thanks again Mr Ive) which is a
330Mhz G3 machine. I’ve been installing software and it took me about 30
minutes to install nearly all the software I needed to. So far I haven’t got
AirPort working yet but I was out all day today (more on that later) but that
will be one of tomorrow’s projects. I’ve paired it with my phone so that I can
send texts straight from the laptop and I’ll connect my palm tomorrow.
Obviously I’ve managed to get iBlog to work on both machines but it’s not a very
good solution at the moment, I have to copy a folder back and forth between the
machines as and when I update things, this looks like it may be rectified in a
future release.
So yeah, I’m really happy with my Powerbook and I was
pleasantly surprised by PC World, although they did of course keep offering
their extended warranty. I can’t wait to sort out my insurance and actually
start taking it out and about. Hopefully there’s an open wireless network
somewhere near Uni!
So after getting my laptop, I decided I had
to get a bag to protect it so Jo and I went to London today to get one. We went
to Tottenham Court Road and after seeing several similar bags that were £56
upwards I went into one shop and found exactly what I wanted for £19.99,
yay me! Then we went around Soho, Oxford Street, John Lewis and Camden before
stopping off to visit Mr Blaine on the way back to Jo’s.

39 days in and he’s still going!
Now I’m at home in bed typing this by the backlight on the keyboard.
I just need to sort out the network and broadband and everything will be sorted.
Generally however, life is pretty schweet!
