Wi-Fi Fun.
I was wandering about with an old IBM ThinkPad with a wireless card in it
today to see how far my network reached. I was streaming an album of mp3s from
my PC to the laptop and I was amazed that I could walk around the whole house,
the garden, down the side of the house and around to the front garden with only
very short breaks in transmission.
I personally think that wireless
networking is the way forward for home networking. It’s really easy to
set up, is fast enough for most home users and benefits from not having to run
cables all over the place. Currently we have a PC, a Mac and an IBM laptop
(soon to be joined by my PowerBook) networked around the house, the PC is the
only machine hard-wired to the router. All I need to do now is get a cheap
print server and we’ll be set.
