Webcam is Go
After much faffing about last night and this morning I now have a working
target="_blank">webcam I was hoping that I could use the EyeToy
as a webcam but it doesn’t seem possible at the moment. I’m sure it will be
though, someone is bound to write a driver for it at some point. Instead I’m
using the cool i-cam that my parents bought me for passing my a-levels. I
haven’t really used it at all since I switched to OSX as it didn’t work but I
found a driver for it and everything’s working now.
Hopefully when I
get broadband (October) I’ll be able to leave the webcam on all the time but at
the moment it’ll only be on in the evenings when my computer’s online. I was
going to have it aiming at my room but I was worried I might forget it was there
at an inappropriate moment! So currently it’s aimed out of my window but I
might move it now and then. The
target="_blank">software I’m using is pretty cool, it lets you
add motion sensors to the video feed and use them to trigger the captures. So
it’s set to take a new image every 2 minutes or if it detects motion on my porch
roof (cats, birds, window-cleaners, etc.). I also found a script that shows the
track info for the track I’m listening to in the webcam image. It needs
adjusting though, I need to add a line that tells it to show “nothing” if iTunes
isn’t open, currently it opens iTunes and then freezes.
